Sectoid |
This little gray alien
used to be a common sight on Earth. Now, with the NAARO's destruction of
the alien brain, their cooperation with the other aliens has ceased, and
most of those remaining on Earth do so because they are unable to leave.
They are usually armed with smaller plasma weapons, due to their physical
weakness. While they don't make for much of a combat threat, some possess
a certain degree of mental prowess, allowing them to manipulate the minds
of weaker soldiers. |
|
Cyberdisk |
This alien terror unit
is found in the service of either Ethereals or Sectoids, both races possessing
the technology to construct and the means to control them. One thing about
this robotic hover tank is certain - it is deadly. Armed with a rapid fire
plasma cannon, possessing the ability to float through the air, and a near
infallible targeting system make even a single of these units a great threat.
Their tendency to explode when critically damaged inflicts extreme damage
upon anything or anyone caught in the blast radius, which is comparable
to that of a blaster bomb. |
|
Snakeman |
This race of orange skinned
monopeds, like the sectoids, has ended its cooperation with its Ethereal
"leaders" since the Great Alien War. Unlike the sectoids, the Snakemen
have proliferated since then. Their rapid mode of reproduction, which involves
laying clutches of up to fifteen rapidly hatching eggs, combined with a
rapid growth cycle, makes them a force to be reckoned with. They are often
found in the possession of the more advanced alien weapons, including heavy
plasmas, due to their strength and numbers. They currently form the main
bulk of the forces arrayed against the U.S.S.A. |
|
Chryssalid |
Originating from the same
world as the Snakeman race, this species was once under alien control.
Currently, this species is proving to be more than a match for all Earth
native life. This alien's attack also happens to be its method of reproduction.
Charging up to a target, the alien knocks into it and attempts to implant
its rapidly- growing egg. The egg grows rapidly, invading the subject's
nervous system, causing the all-too-familiar symptoms of drooling and charging
towards the nearest member of one's own species in an attempt to immobilize
it so as to provide food for the soon-to-emerge alien. Implanted troopers
should be executed as a matter of not only practicality, but of mercy. |
|
Ethereal |
These aliens are the masterminds
behind the alien invasion. The Ethereals and their minions used to be the
most powerful force on the planet. Now, the ranks of their forces have
decreased greatly with the destruction of the alien brain, the discontinued
cooperation of the Snakemen, Sectoids and their terror units, and the fact
that for the last thirty years, they have been hunted down and mercilessly
killed as a matter of routine by all Terran forces. They have reached a
stage of evolution where they sustain themselves through their telekinetic
powers, with their bodies as little more than shells for their considerable
minds. In combat, they prefer to stay back and employ their mental powers
to confuse and control the enemy. If necessary, they can and will engage
in direct combat. They are not too fast, but their aim is deadly, and they
often carry the more powerful alien weapons. Needless to say, they should
be eliminated on sight. |
|
Floater |
This Ethereal creation
is derived from some sort of predatory stock. They still serve their masters
unquestioningly, although Ethereals often need to maintain direct control
over them in a combat situation - otherwise, they tend to blindly charge
at the enemy attempting to slash them open with their razor sharp claws.
This is hampered somewhat by the fact that their method of movement is
a slow hover. They are found carrying medium and heavy strength weapons. |
|
Muton |
Another Ethereal creation,
this alien is often used by the Ethereals to test out new weapons and equipment
prototypes. Most recent examples include an alien version of powered armor
and the helium thrower. Fast, and nearly impervious to projectile weapons
due to the alien alloys grafted onto their body, the muton constitutes
a serious combat threat. Their main weakness is their complete reliance
on direct Ethereal control - without it, they tend to stop whatever they
were doing and stand still. |
|
Sectopod |
This bipedal machine is
one of the greatest Ethereal creations. Packing the firepower of a main
battle tank in the form of twin plasma cannons, most recent models are
also equipped with a fusion missile launcher. With thick armor plating
and a sophisticated targeting system, their vulnerabilities are limited
to EMP pulses, which scramble their targeting and navigation circuits,
and laser weaponry, which can easily cut through the thick armor. |
|
Reaper |
A beast originating from
the Floater home world, this creature remains largely unmodified by the
Ethereals except for tracking and mind control implants. Regardless of
whether under Ethereal control or not, this creature's ravenous appetite
leads it to attack the nearest potential food source, ripping it apart
with razor-sharp claws and jaws. This beast's fur is easy to set on fire
- which is just about its only vulnerability due to its thick skin and
twin sets of every major organ. |
|
Silacoid |
This alien was thought
to be a harmless blob... until it approached an X-Com trooper and melted
him down to slag with a spurt of what liquefied rock. Fortunately, this
alien can only attack at close range, and leaves a trail of smoke and fire
behind it. This creature is most likely an Ethereal made biologically engineered
weapon. |
|
Celatid |
A floating blob which spurts
corrosive acid at short ranges, and seems to be attracted to strong heat
sources, such as humans. Again, this creature is probably a biological
weapon. |
