History |
Sam was born in Boston, Massachusetts, into your average American family of four - Father, Mother, Sister, Brother. Sam obviously was the brother. He was a sports jock in school, dedicating more of his time to sports than to his education. As a result, he finished with only mediocre grades. Unable to find another source of money, Sam, against his parents' wishes, joined the U.S. Army. Several weeks of bootcamp, and he was off to college, under an army scholarship, reporting for duty every weekend. In 1997, he graduated from college with a B.S. in computer engineering. From there, he was assigned to active duty and fought several unpublicized engagements in various undisclosed areas of the world. Being quickly promoted to Captain for his ingenuity, he was recommended for Delta Force training by a superior officer. He immediately accepted the offer. From there follow several none-too glamorous years of doing various routine tasks, practicing for missions, training in special skills, etc. By then, it was 1999 and X-Com was starting to recruit. Sam wasn't one of those picked for or informed about X-Com recruitment. Over the next to years, Sam was sent, along with his team, to conduct raids on various undesirable characters - in reality, those that had demonstrated a wish to cooperate with the aliens. Soon, his life would be changed forever as one mission was his first encounter with alien technology. In reality, the Columbian drug baron's villa was a storehouse for advanced weaponry purchased from X-Com. Guards equipped with Plasma Pistols instead of projectile weapons patrolled the space around the mansion. Sam's team, although outgunned, stuck to their plan and captured the drug baron, discovering the weapons cache in the process. After they returned to base, the mission was sealed, the captured weapons disappeared, and Sam, along with the other participants, was transferred to a station in Alaska. By this time, the X-Com mission to Cydonia had failed. As the aliens attacked the Alaskan station, Sam and what was left of his team fled the area. Over the next year, most of his the team perished in alien attacks or snowstorms. Currently, Sam has very few troops under his command - only a handful of military and civilian personnel, hiding out in the Alaskan forests and snow fields. |
Personality |
Sam misses his old way of life - hanging out with friends, arm-wrestling, watching TV and movies, and his girlfriend which he left back in Boston. He wonders what happened to his family. He's a nice guy, if a bit uncultured, having spent his time playing football, reading physics books and training with the army instead of reading shakespeare. He's sad about all the friends that he's lost to the aliens, but he has no outstanding emotional attachment to anything, so he's always a logical and rational decision-maker. |
