Jean Kemp was a bright college student, well on his way to success...until
1999, when aliens made a bold attack on Houston, Texas, incidently in the
same area in which he was attending college. A small portion of the
city was destroyed, but the aliens were soon stopped by X-Com. However,
's roommate had collaborated with the aliens, and Jean was wrongfully acused
and arrested for helping the aliens by his treacharous roommate.
Facing execution, Jean had a choice of either being thrown into a gas chamber,
or drafted into X-Com, being monitored 24 hours a day and only allowed
to arm himself with a small handgun; no grenades, laser rifles, nothing.
He somehow managed to survive several rather dangerous missions, however,
his treatment caused him to develop a deep resentment of X-Com and everyone
around him. He slowly became more and more introverted, until finally
he ceased talking to anybody, even to acknowledge an order given to him
by a superior officer, which landed him in suspension, not allowing him
to go with the Mars assault team on the Avenger. This saved his life
however, as the entire Avenger team never returned. The aliens then
began attacking Earth en masse, and the base that Jean was stationed at
was one of the first to be destroyed. Seeing a chance for escape,
he cut the monitoring brace off of his ankle with a laser torch in one
of the workshops, ran to a storage room across the hall, and grabbed a
plasma rifle. The aliens by this time were flowing in through the
access lift in the base and coming down the hall towards his position,
so he was forced to fall back while firing at his attackers. After
a minute or so, he found himself backed into a hangar housing an Interceptor
fighter craft. Seeing his only chance for survival, he climbed into
the cockpit of the Interceptor and fired up the engines, frying a few aliens
that had foolishly followed him into the room. The other aliens hung
by the door and fired with plasma rifles at the interceptor, but not causing
much damage. Jean was adept at learning how to control vehicles quickly,
and the Interceptor proved to be no problem. The major problem however,
was that he quite literally didn't know where on Earth he was, and he wasn't
sure how the radar systems on the Interceptor worked, so he picked a random
direction and flew. The Interceptor had plenty of fuel, but a few
hours into the flight, he realized two things: one, UFOs were becoming
more and more common and occasionally took shots at him, and two, he shouldn't
have had two cups of coffee and four bran muffins before he took off.
Finally, his plane was hit by a blast from a UFO, and the Interceptor went
down quickly. He crash landed in Canada near the Alaskan border,
and quickly grabbed his plasma rifle and what little provisions he could
find in the Interceptor, and climbed out into the wilderness before the
UFO came looking for him. He wandered around aimlessly for days,
hunting what he could with the plasma rifle he had, but it's ammo was soon
depleted. Finally, due to exposure, he just couldn't take anymore
and collapsed in the snow. When he awoke, he was in Wychin's base,
and he reluctantly agreed to join the force. |
