Like so many other people, Kevin Harrison lost his parents to the alien
invaders. He was seventeen in 1995 when they went missing in mysterious
circumstances. Grieving their loss, Harrison lost his job (he was at the
time working as an armed guard for a security corporation), and seemed
set to fade into obscurity. However, the advent of the first alien war
changed all that. In 1999, the presence of alien invaders was confirmed
by the government, and an organisation known as X-Com was formed to combat
them. The covert war went on for several years, with many people remaining
blissfully aware of what was happening across the globe. However, Harrison
learned of the invaders through old contacts, and before long had arrived
at the only possible conclusion: the aliens were responsible for the disappearance
of his parents.
Knowing this, Harrison attempted to gain entry into the lower ranks of X-Com. However, for obvious reasons he was completely incapable of contacting anyone in the know about the crack unit. Instead, he joined the armed forces, intending to work his way through the ranks, show his skill as a soldier, and join X-Com. This never occurred. He had just become an officer in a small infantry platoon when the Cydonia mission failed, and the aliens descended in their warships to raze the Earth. A full complement of Snakemen warriors attacked his camp. Harrison’s platoon suffered heavy casualties, but thanks to his leadership and quick thinking it escaped. They were the only soldiers to do so. They fought desperate battles of attrition as they moved across an Alaska that burned with the fires of war. Scavenging vehicles, equipment, food and ammunition as they went, the platoon attempted to gather survivors from the dying species of humanity. They saved less than they lost to alien strike teams. Even Harrison, noted for his grim exterior and his cold, hard hatred for the aliens, was apparently losing hope. Then they met the Cold Force. |
